Today we are in Negril

 TODAY WE ARE IN NEGRIL

Negril on the west coast of Jamaica is known for its laid back vibe, amazing sunsets and world class beaches.  You will not find any high rises here, the resorts are no higher than the coconut trees and the buildings are set back you will find long, broad beautiful beaches here.  Eat and drink, love and laugh, play, party and be happy.  Negril — come and experience the pleasure.

My top recommendations

Rick's Cafe on the west end of Negril is not be be missed.  There is a  real funky feel here with amazing cliff diving, hot sunset parties and more!  Grab yourself a cold Red Stripe and enjoy!

Great seafood and Jamaican cuisine can be found at Norma's on the Beach and at Cosmos Seafood Restaurant.

Live reggae bands and dancing are easy to find, there are exciting clubs along Norman Manley Blvd or you can check out the beachfront bars at Alfred's Ocean Palace or The Jungle Night Club & Sports Bar.  Enjoy the sounds of live reggae and the amazing beach views!

Get out to the offshore reefs. The reefs attract and abundance of sea life, nature lovers will love snorkeling, diving or enjoying a glass bottom boat tour.

The beach!!  All seven miles of it.....enjoy the sun, sand, surf and mesmerizing sunsets!  You can find the party spots or a nice secluded cove, the choice is yours.  Make Negril your home.

                                         Sunset in Negril.........mesmerizing!!

Today we are in Jamaica

Jamaica is a very popular destination, many people once they travel here will return again and again.

It's a great place for families, honeymooners, destination weddings, golf groups, girls getaways and more. It is so easy to fly into Jamaica from most US or Canadian gateways. Yes you can drink the water, everyone speaks English and most places will accept the USD(and if not it's super to to find an exchange).

Aside from the above, my top 5 reasons(and believe me there are many more) to visit this incredible island are just below. Over the next few weeks I will focus on different areas within the country, so stay tuned.

Why visit Jamaica?

1) The people! Jamaicans are such a fun loving people who are full of pride. You can learn much about their culture and history through their dance, music and food. They love to chat you up.....just ask! The warmth of the people will keep you coming back.

2)Miles and miles of beautiful beaches, coves, waterfalls and rugged coastlines.

3)Jamaican food is fresh and locally sourced, so colorful and full of flavor it's not to be missed! Be sure to try some local Jerk cuisine and the national dish of ackee and saltfish.

4)Water sports are everywhere, whether you are a pro or a beginner needing instruction, there is adventure for everyone. You can go snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing(at Boston Beach), windsurfing and more.

5)Hotels and accommodations are abundant here. Jamaica is the birthplace of the All-Inclusive concept. But don't worry, there are many more options including villas, luxury hotels, boutique properties and more. The list of accommodations is substantial, I always recommend using a travel professional to help find the perfect stay for you.

Do you want to go on a European River Cruise?

So you want to go on a River Cruise?

River Cruising is HOT and is the next BIG thing!

A River Cruise is becoming one of the most popular ways to vacation in Europe thanks to the convenience and the luxury experiences on todays river cruise ships.

Options available in Europe include the Rhine, Seine, Moselle, Main, Danube and others. Countries to be visited include Germany, Austria, Hungary,  Holland, France, the Czech Republic and Portugal.  There are other options in Asia, Africa and the US as well.

People love the smaller more intimate ships with an avaerage of 160 guests. You are made to feel so welcome as if you are home, your every need anticipated by attentive staff. You are welcomed aboard and you only have to unpack once,   you will visit many quaint villages, see historic sights and be immersed in the destinations.

So much is included in your cruise fare; excursions in every port(there are also optional tours in many ports), all meals and beer and wine at lunch and dinner(some lines include all drinks -all day).
Onboard entertainment is included and usually is a local musician or a destination expert speaking on the upcoming ports and sightseeing. Often there are specialty cruises like wine themed cruises, where an expert in winemaking will provide lectures and wine tasting too. It is a nice way to travel and meet like-minded folks.

No worries about sea sickness as river cruise ships have very little movement and you can always see the shoreline.

I recommend that you splurge for the Balcony stateroom or at least the French Balcony. Very often the entry level pricing is for a room on the first deck with small fixed windows and you may feel as if you are in a fishbowl once you start sailing.

TIP: book your cruise as far in advance as possible; many dates and itineraries sell out quickly, and you may be able to take advantage of Early Booking discounts and amenities.

River Cruising for the family

Cruise vacations are so easy, unpack once and see many different ports along the way. While big ship cruising focuses on the ship as the destination, River Cruises focus on the ports and cities along the river.  So much beauty and history unfolds along the river, imagine spending time with your family immersing yourselves in these magnificent destinations.

Many of our preferred river cruise lines are offering special cruises geared for families. Think about these multigenerational adventures for milestone celebrations; graduations, anniversaries, and birthdays. Everyone is sure to have a fantastic time and you will create memories that will last a lifetime.

Uniworld specializes in personalized travel, and that goes for the younger guests as well. Since no two kids are alike, they offer a full range of enticing onshore excursions and onboard activities—some geared for children and others tailored for tweens and teens. Kids are half price on many of these sailings too. One of our favorites is the "Delightful Danube & Prague" with the following highlights;

  • Segway ride and Giant Ferris Wheel in Vienna
  • Nuremberg’s secret tunnels or WWII sites
  • BMW factory tour or student stroll
  • Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna

Amawaterways has teamed with Adventures by Disney to offer spectacular family oriented sailings on a brand new ships with connecting staterooms( a first for river boats) The Adventures by Disney River Cruises were designed for families. Itineraries offer a variety of experiences that parents, children and teens can enjoy—ranging from active excursions, castle and museum tours and unique onboard activities to Disney movie nights for Junior Adventurers and wine tasting for adults. The Rhine itinerary is great for families and offers the following:

  • Ride a Toboggan, Hike and Zipline on a Fun-Filled Day Exploring the Black Forest
  • Visit the Famous Storybook Heidelberg Castle
  • Explore the Alsace Region on a Canoe Trip and by Horseback Riding
  • Chocolate Museum and Chocolate-Making Workshop
  • See Windmills in Holland and Learn the Art of Clog-Painting and Cheese-Making

Tauck Bridges Family Adventure offers unique family travel onboard their riverboats. Our favorite itinerary is "Family Fun Along the Seine".  You will have the trip of a lifetime along with fantastic, attentive service as there are no more than 98 guests onboard. Here are some highlights of this itinerary;
  • Monet’s gardens
  • D-Day Beaches
  • Rouen
  • Versailles
  • enjoy a guided bicycle ride along the Seine
  • a Parisian picnic at the Eiffel Tower
  • art-filled scavenger hunt and guided tour in the Musée du Louvre in Paris.
