Cunard is "Pretty in Pink" In Australia

19 February 2010 - History was made in Sydney today when, in a world first, Cunard’s Queen Victoria was illuminated in pink while berthed at Sydney’s Circular Quay. Queen Victoria was bathed in vibrant pink light from dusk to support Australia’s National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), which officially launched its 2010 fundraising target of $17 million at an event onboard. Pink lights illuminated the entire ship, providing the ideal setting for the event.

“Pink has become synonymous with the fight against breast cancer, so we are delighted to offer NBCF the opportunity to boost awareness of research and claim a world first by being the first to illuminate a liner in pink,” said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line.

Queen Victoria will make history again this time next year when she sails her first "Americas" season, traversing the Panama Canal on more than one voyage, making rare roundtrip sailings from Los Angeles to Hawaii, plus debuting her maiden Mexico Getaway voyage.

Queen Elizabeth

30 September 2010 – Cunard has taken delivery of   Queen Elizabeth – the second largest Cunarder ever built and the third new liner for the luxury cruise vacation company in six years.

The Handover Ceremony took place today on board the new 92,400-ton vessel at the Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard. The event included a speech by Cunard President Peter Shanks. The Italian flag was ceremonially lowered and the Blue Ensign was raised, marking the entry of another magnificent Cunard liner into the Register of British Shipping.

“This ceremony to mark the completion of the Queen Elizabeth and our acceptance of delivery, is just the first of a number of significant events over the next few weeks – including the ship’s official naming by Her Majesty The Queen in Southampton on Monday 11 October,” said Shanks. “I’m certain the British will take this truly magnificent ship to their hearts, as they have all the Cunard Queens.”

Queen Elizabeth is due to leave the shipyard on 30 September and sail to Southampton, where she will berth at the Ocean Cruise Terminal on Friday 8 October.

Queen Elizabeth will depart on her Maiden Voyage at 5:00pm on Tuesday 12 October.

Cruise Planners Convention 2010

I just returned from the Cruise Planners Convention 2010. We were at The Westin Beach Resort in sunny Fort Lauderdale. The resort itself is beautiful right at the beach and walking distance to Las Olas Blvd with plenty of boutiques, restaurants and bars. The convention attracted more than 400 attendees! For three days I participated in daily training sessions, professional development workshops and panel discussions with industry professionals and top cruise line executives to gain insight into the coming travel season.

After 3 days we went by motorcoach to port of Miami and sailed onboard the stunning Celebrity Eclipse. This ship is beautiful, very elegant and upscale. The service was wonderful and the meals were delicious. If you have the opportunity to sail on this ship I highly recommend it. The Celebrity Silhouette (sister ship to the Eclipse) will be sailing from Bayonne NJ beginning in 2011. Call today to book your cruise!
